Born on August 25, 1968, in Tehran/Iran, Dr. Mostafa Ghaffari studied medicine at Iran University of Medical Sciences and then completed his Master of Public Health at Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
For more than 10 years he works as manager within the Iranian health care system in different districts on provincial and national level. For two years, he was appointed as vice Deputy Minister for Health in Iran and has started different national prevention programs of the Ministry of Health.
In 2001, he completed the Health Management and Health Economics program at Boston University, USA. In 2007, he received a PhD degree in the field of Occupational Medicine from Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, and, in 2008, he completed post-doctoral studies in Environmental Medicine at Uppsala University, Sweden.
From 2008 until 2010 he has worked as Director General of the Occupational Medicine Department and as Director General of the Center for Non Communicable Disease Control (CDC) in the Ministry of Health in Iran and served the World Health Organization (WHO) as temporary advisor. As Head of the National Secretariat for the Tobacco Control Program in Iran he launched a successful tobacco control initiative and became winner of the WHO award for tobacco control in 2009.
From 2010 under direct supervision and leadership of Prof. Madjid Samii he became Director General of Iran International Neuroscience Institute (IINI) project.
