Today (August 19th) marks the sixth Chinese Doctors' Day.

Dear physicians, thank you so much for your hard work!

Throughout the year, you've toiled tirelessly day and night, building the defense line for the lives and health of the people.

On your journey, you've overcome obstacles, creating countless miracles in life.

To allow more people to understand the daily work of physicians, to bridge the gap between physicians and the public, and to promote more health knowledge to enhance everyone's health level and quality of life, on August 18, 2023, Shenzhen Samii Medical Center (The Fourth People's Hospital of Shenzhen) held a colorful open day event. The open day event featured three main activities: “Hospital Tours," "A Day in the Life of a Physician," and "Healthcare Lectures”.

01  Hospital Tours

The hospital staff of the Shenzhen Samii Medical Center led both adults and children to visit various areas of the hospital, including the outpatient sand table, the Wall of Honor, the Pediatric clinics, the rooftop garden, the Ob/Gyn wards, and the pediatric wards. With the arrival of the visitors, the hospital's mysteries were unveiled, injecting vitality to its serene environment.

02  A Day in the Life of a Physician

Perhaps, everyone has fantasized about becoming a physician. With Chinese Doctors' Day drawing close, the Shenzhen Samii Medical Center attempts to turn this fantasy into reality with its open day event, which gives participants an opportunity to experience a taste of being a physician. From learning about testing equipment, understanding specimen collection procedures, dressing wounds, to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), everyone eagerly participated in learning and experiencing these practical skills.

03  Healthcare Lectures

Experts delivered a series of healthcare lectures, covering topics such as psychological adjustment and sleep health for students and parents during the back-to-school season. They also shed light on the impact of poor sitting posture on the health of individuals as well as the prevention and control of myopia in children and adolescents. These lectures, presented in an easy-to-understand manner, addressed many parents' concerns while also contributing to the healthy growth of children.

The entire event was filled with a lively atmosphere, with smiles of joy on the faces of both children and parents. Informed by the insights shared by the staff of the Shenzhen Samii Medical Center, they came to realize that every design of the hospital was thoughtfully made with patients in mind, experiencing the warmth and care behind the design.

The course titled “A Day in the Life of a Physician” was an eye-opening experience for the children. Some children expressed that they used to be curious about the "world" behind the "blood testing window" and were thrilled to finally have the opportunity to feast their eyes on diverse advanced medical instruments and various types of biological cells, showcasing the wonders of medicine.

Some children also had a great time learning wound dressing and CPR, proudly stating, "Now we know how to protect ourselves when faced with danger".

Time flew by and the morning passed quickly, and both parents and children were still reluctant to leave. They expressed hope that the hospital would organize more activities like this in the future. Not only do such events bring physicians and the public closer, they also help everyone acquire more practical health knowledge.
