To celebrate the 113th International Nurses’ Day, on the afternoon of May 11, Shenzhen Samii Medical Center (The Fourth People’s Hospital of Shenzhen) celebrated the 2024 International Nurses’ Day. WANG Cheng, CPC Secretary, RONG Deyi, Chief Finance Officer, ZHANG Longping, Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Committee, and nurse representatives joined the celebration.
The celebration kicked off with a nursing promotional video "The Familiar She/He Around Us". In the video, nurses in white uniforms meticulously take care of patients throughout countless long days and nights. From getting familiar with the condition of patients and alleviating their pain to soothing their emotions and responding to their various needs, although there may not be the drama of battle, the nurses “charge forward” every single day.
WANG Cheng, CPC Secretary, delivered a speech during the event, extending his most sincere festival wishes to all nurses at SSMC. He expressed heartfelt appreciation for the contributions made by the nursing team to patients over the past seven years. He also outlined specific requirements for the direction of future nursing work, covering aspects such as specialized nursing skills, humanistic care in nursing, and nursing team building. He encouraged all nursing staff to continue their efforts, not only to enhance nursing competence but also to infuse nursing with even more warmth.

To add some diversity to the event, there were engaging activities such as the Nursing Encyclopedia Q&A, an essay exhibition themed around "Guarding Health", and lively speeches themed around "If I Were a Patient". The atmosphere was vibrant, with active interactions among participants.

In the essay exhibition themed around "Guarding Health", the participants shared their experience and insights in taking care of patients.
Among them, QIN Lingcui, a nurse from the Gastroenterology Department, shared her work titled "The Gradually Melting 'Frozen' Heart" during the event. Through specific cases, she expressed her profound understanding of the nursing occupation.
In the speeches themed around "If I Were a Patient", the speakers had in-depth analyses of the emotional changes experienced by patients grappling with illnesses by putting themselves into patients’ shoes. Nursing staff present at the event said that they gained a deeper understanding of patients' psychological states after listening to the speeches. This enhanced their empathy towards patients' emotions and was helpful for them to serve patients better in future work.
Although nursing may seem ordinary among countless occupations, it carries a profound sense of sacredness due to its weighty responsibility for life. Nurses, steadfast in their reverence and commitment to life, carry a torch to illuminate the path of life for each "lost" patient.
In this journey, besides honing their skills, they need courage, sourced from themselves, from mutual encouragement, and from the understanding and support of all of us. Finally, a salute to all the ordinary yet extraordinary angels in white. Wish you a joyful festival and eternal youth!
