The day June 7 is a memorable day for Shenzhen Samii International Medical Center (The Fourth People’s Hospital of Shenzhen) and the medical staff of the hospital – the recovered COVID-19 patients under observation in the quarantine and medical observation area were declared to zero.

In the fight against the epidemic, Shenzhen has pioneered the mode of follow-up observation at designated medical institutions for patients who have recovered from COVID-19. Under such mode, patients discharged from the Third People’s Hospital of Shenzhen and those returned to Shenzhen after being diagnosed and cured in other provinces, cities, and abroad have been concentrated in Shenzhen Samii International Medical Center (The Fourth People’s Hospital of Shenzhen) to accept follow-up observation in single room for two weeks, and discharged from quarantine and medical observation after various medical indexes are qualified. By Screening - Treatment - Observation of Recovered Patients, the prevention and control of COVID-19 in Shenzhen has formed a whole chain closed loop, and become the successful experience of the fight against the epidemic in Shenzhen.

From February 22 to June 7, a total of 385 individuals have been admitted for follow-up observation in 107 days, with a total of 512 stays, including 21 stays by foreigners.

As an important battlefield of the fight against the epidemic in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Samii International Medical Center (The Fourth People’s Hospital of Shenzhen) has vacated totaling 9 wards and mobilized its medical staff to fight for 3 months to make sure that individuals under observation can eat and live at ease, and obtain best quality observation service. More, the hospital has also implemented strict control to prevent nosocomial infection, with a great achievement of no infection among medical staff and other staff, and no occurrence of malignant or adverse events. On the day June 7, the hospital held a brief and warm farewell ceremony for the last two individuals under observation who were discharged from quarantine and medical observation, sent them flowers and gifts, and issued the Notice of Discharge from Quarantine and Medical Observation.

During the two weeks of living in the quarantine and medical observation area, the nutritious diet, warmhearted and thoughtful doctors and nurses, warm and comfortable ward environment have made Xinxin (pseudonym) and her mother who accompanied and attended to her deeply impressed. Finally, they could go home on June 7. And before they left, they carefully made a thank-you video and wrote a thank-you letter.

After sending off the last two individuals under observation, those medical staff who have been fighting here for more than 100 days, looking at the empty quarantine and medical observation area, were in mixed emotions. However, the fact that these individuals under observation returned home successfully also enhanced their confidence and determination to overcome the epidemic, and they were also excited and gratified by clearance of patients in the quarantine and medical observation area.

After the individuals under observation were cleared to zero, operations like final disinfection and sterilization of the quarantine and medical observation area, office area relocation and so on will be carried out in an orderly manner, new tasks will be undertaken, and routine medical service order will be restored to better provide comprehensive medical services for patients.

At present, the domestic epidemic situation has leveled off, while international pandemic situation remains grim, which means the prevention and control work cannot be slackened at all.
