To enhance the development of the Neurosurgery discipline in our hospital and improve the clinical care standards for related diseases, on the afternoon of February 3, 2024, our hospital had the honor of inviting Prof. MA Lianting from the General Hospital of Central Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army to our hospital to give a lecture and provide guidance. The lecture, presided over by WANG Cheng, CPC Secretary and Legal Representative of Shenzhen Samii Medical Center (The Fourth People's Hospital of Shenzhen) (SSMC), saw active participation from departments including Neurosurgery, Neurology, Neuroimaging, Neurorehabilitation, and Neuroemergency. 

MA Lianting is the Director of the Postdoctoral Research Station at the General Hospital of Central Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Chief Physician of the Neurosurgery Department, professor and doctoral supervisor. He holds first-class professional and civilian titles, and is a chief physician and professor.

Prof. MA was at the forefront internationally of pioneering the application of the interventional technology in treating war-related cranial vascular injuries, spearheading the development of the "intravascular hemostatic band" and first proposing the "directional rotation" intubation method. Among his peers in China, he is acknowledged as one of the trailblazers in intravascular neurosurgery.

In August 2000, JIANG Zemin personally signed an order awarding him the Second-Class Merit; in 2002, the Central Military Commission awarded him a Major Scientific and Technological Contribution Award; in 2004, he was rated as a Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Elite; in 2007, he won the fourth Chinese Physician Prize, and in 2008, he was honored with the WANG Zhongcheng Lifetime Achievement Award for Chinese Neurosurgeons.

Prof. MA's lecture was given in two parts: firstly, "the invention and nomenclature of the intravascular hemostatic band and its application in the treatment of war-related vascular injuries" and secondly, "50 years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of intracranial and intraspinal arteriovenous fistulas". This lecture was clear in thought and concise in structure, captivating the audience's full attention.

During his lecture, Prof. MA consistently underscored the principles of "prioritizing practical experience, valuing efficacy, summarizing experience, and fostering innovation". He encouraged attendees to explore problems earnestly and courageously express their ideas.

After listening to Prof. MA's lecture, the attending physicians seized this valuable opportunity to ask questions eagerly. Prof. MA praised their critical thinking and problem-identifying abilities, patiently gave tailored responses to the questions, and offered highly valuable guidance to the physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of typical cases.

Deeply impressed by Prof. MA's guidance, CPC Secretary WANG Cheng expressed his sincere admiration for Prof. MA's professionalism and perseverance and put forward three expectations for the attending physicians: "First, overcome all difficulties and conduct long-term follow-up with patients; second, continuously summarize experience and enhance research and innovation capabilities; third, care for the growth of young physicians and strive to cultivate talents."

After the lecture, Prof. MA learned that a patient was in serious condition and immediately decided to provide on-site consultation. He carefully inquired about the patient's symptoms and patiently guided the treatment for the next steps.

The opportunity to learn from top-rated experts in Neurosurgery in China is invaluable both for the attending physicians and the hospital's discipline development. In the future, the hospital will continue to invite more renowned experts from home and abroad to provide guidance, infusing greater dynamism into the ongoing efforts of strengthening the  disciplinary characteristics and enhancing the discipline development for the hospital.
