Familial hypercholesterolemia poses a serious threat to the health of Chinese residents. Statistics shows that the rising serum cholesterol levels among the population is expected to lead to an increase of approximate 9.2 million cardiovascular cases in China from 2010 to 2030.

The national high attention to the prevention and treatment of hypercholesterolemia is evident in the launch of the national key R&D initiative during the 14th Five-Year Plan period — Exploring Novel Therapeutic Targets for Screening and Intervention of Hypercholesterolemia in China. Leveraging its professional medical expertise, Shenzhen Samii Medical Center (The Fourth People's Hospital of Shenzhen) (SSMC) has been enlisted as a collaborative partner in this endeavor..

To carry out early screening for patients with familial hypercholesterolemia and provide standardized treatment and professional medication guidance for those in need, on March 31, 2024, departments including Hepatobiliary Surgery and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery of SSMC joined national-level experts to hold a free medical consultation event for familial hypercholesterolemia at the square in front of SSMC's outpatient building.

This consultation event featuredrenowned national experts such as Professors WANG Lvya, LUO Wen, and ZHANG Jun.

This consultation event received strong support from the leadership of the SSMC. Departments including Hepatobiliary Surgery and Vascular and Endovascular Surgery (General Surgery), Cardiovascular Medicine, Medical Ultrasound, Diagnostic Laboratory, Outpatient Services, and Office of Nursing Services participated in this event.

SSMC not only organized health lectures for patients who came for treatment but also provided health surveys (medical history and medication history), physical examinations (height, weight, blood pressure, and heart rate), three thyroid function-related indicators testing, electrocardiogram, echocardiography, and carotid artery color ultrasound examination for free.

This free medical consultation event conducted early screening for patients with dyslipidemia in eastern Shenzhen, raising awareness among citizens about the prevention and treatment of familial hypercholesterolemia. This endeavor can enable early intervention for at-risk patients, and effectively reduce the occurrence of cardiovascular cases.
