The Neurosurgery Department has a well-established multi-level medical team with 5 staff having an M.D. degree, and 8 staff having an M.M. degree, all from Grade III Level A hospitals in different provinces and cities in China. They have received formal and systematic higher education and training, been granted master's or above degree, and received strict, standardized and professional neurosurgery training. In response to the goal of internationalization of Shenzhen Samii Medical Center, all team members can speak fluent English, by which “zero” language obstacle is experienced in daily diagnosis and treatment of diseases and physician-patient communication.

At present, the Neurosurgery Department has set up the Neurosurgery Ward, Neuro-ICU and Hybrid Operating Room. The Neurosurgery Department also has complete ward support facilities, personnel structure, equipment and instruments, department rules and regulations, and advanced MDT diagnosis and treatment concepts. The Neurosurgery Department currently undertakes outpatient diagnosis and treatment, inpatient diagnosis and treatment, as well as scientific research work in neurosurgery. The scope of diagnosis and treatment covers common craniocerebral trauma, nervous system tumors, cerebrovascular diseases, functional neurosurgery diseases, etc., and can carry out a number of surgeries including surgery for craniocerebral trauma, surgery for intracranial hematoma, surgery for intracranial aneurysm, surgery for common nervous system tumor, ventriculoperitoneal shunt, and cranioplasty, as well as neurointerventional surgical treatments including whole-brain DSA.

There are 47 hospital beds in Neurosurgery Ward, including 6 single-bed rooms, 9 double-bed rooms (including 1 accessible ward), 5 three-bed rooms and 1 resuscitation room. A number of advanced equipment and instruments including defibrillators, multi-function monitors, video laryngoscopes, single- and double-channel micropumps, bed unit ozone disinfectors, double lower limb rehabilitation function exercisers, high-frequency oscillation expectoration systems, respiratory humidification therapeutic apparatus, arteriovenous pulse pressure therapeutic apparatus, and urodynamic monitors. Most of the medical staff have received advanced studies in Tiantan Hospital and Xuanwu Hospital.

With 18 hospital beds, the Neuro-ICU is equipped with a central monitoring system, 2 intracranial pressure monitors, a neurointensive care monitor, a mild hypothermia treatment instrument, a medium and high-end ventilator, and advanced monitoring equipment and bedside rapid testing equipment such as bedside B-mode ultrasound, bedside hemofiltration, aortic balloon counterpulsation, and thromboelastogram. The Neuro-ICU will play its critical function through the establishment of rapid life channel, rapid and accurate diagnosis of critical illness, high-level neurointensive care and meticulous intensive care.

The Hybrid Operating Room, as a key brand project of our hospital and a major project of Shenzhen in 2020, has a total investment of over RMB 179 million, covers an area of 1,500 square meters, and is equipped with three operating rooms dedicated to neurosurgery, making it an international advanced high-end neurosurgical operating room. The Hybrid Operating Room has introduced Philips' most advanced Azurion7 M20 Angiography System (DSA) and the only Philips Ingenia 3.0T Intraoperative MRI in Shenzhen, which are combined with the traditional operating room to ensure that traditional operation and imaging examination can be carried out in the same space simultaneously. In addition, the operating room is equipped with a series of world's most advanced and sophisticated neurosurgical diagnosis and treatment equipment including Brainlab digital operating room system, Brainlab Curve Dual Display intraoperative neuronavigation system, Zeiss Kinevo 900 microscope, and Remebot neurosurgery robot, which can effectively help neurosurgeons complete difficult neurosurgical operations. Because of the combination of DSA and MR with the traditional operating room, the Hybrid Operating Room can realize the integrated and comprehensive medical concept of “moving the equipment instead of moving the patients”, and truly ensure the medical safety of patients. The establishment of the Hybrid Operating Room and Neuro-ICU marks that the Neurosurgery Department of our hospital has reached the first-class level in China in terms of hardware.
